No. 8 Men’s Golf in a Tie for Sixth after 36 Holes at Tartan Invitational

LIGONIER, Pa. - The eighth-ranked Washington and Lee University men's golf team finished day one of the Tartan Invitational in a tie for sixth place after 36 holes of play at Laurel Valley Golf Club.

The Blue and White are sitting in a tie for sixth place out of 16 teams with a score of 25-over par (298-303 – 601). W&L carded a ten-over par (298) in round one, playing both nines to a score of five-over par with five birdies on each nine. In round two, the Generals played holes one through nine to seven-over par with three birdies and an eagle from Jonathan McEwen. They carded five birdies on the back nine, playing the holes to a score of eight-over par.


W&L is 12 shots behind the leaders, No. 23 Rochester, who finished 36 holes with a score of 13-over par. No. 1 Emory and No. 6 Huntingdon follow closely behind in second and third place, only one shot from each other at 14-over par and 15-over par, respectively.

INDIVIDUAL HIGHLIGHTS
  • Sophomore Tim Kaufman leads the Generals after 36 holes, sitting in third place out of 87 golfers with a score of one-over par (73-72 – 145). He carded a one-over 73 in the first round with three birdies, including two straight on holes 1 and 2. In round two, Kaufman shot an even-par 72 with three birdies and 13 pars. He ranks second in the tournament in par-four scoring, playing the holes two-under par (3.90 average), while ranking 13th in total birdies with six and 20th in par-five scoring with a score of one-under par (4.88 average).
  • Sophomore Alex Holzapfel finished the two rounds in a tie for 21st place with a score of six-over par (72-78 – 150). In round one, Holzapfel registered three birdies with 11 pars, including an eight-hole stretch of pars to shoot even par. He carded a pair of birdies and nine pars in round two to shoot a six-over 78. He ranks sixth in the tournament in par-three scoring, playing the holes to a score of one-over par (3.13 average), and 12th in par-four scoring with a score of two-over par (4.10 average).
  • Junior Jonathan McEwen sits in a tie for 30th place with a score of eight-over par (76-76 – 152). He registered three birdies and nine pars in round one to shoot four over (76), while carding an eagle and birdie alongside ten pars in round two to also shoot a 76 (+4). He ranks third in the field in par-five scoring, playing those holes to a score of three-under par (4.63 average), and second in total eagles with one.
  • Senior captain Turner Edwards finished 36 holes in a tie for 46th place with a score of ten-over par (77-77 – 154). Edwards shot a five-over 77 with one birdie and 11 pars in round one, before carding two birdies and nine pars in round two to also shoot a 77 (+5). He ranks 17th in the field in par-three scoring with a score of two-over par (3.25 average).
  • Sophomore Charlie Krasnewich rounded out the Generals this afternoon, finishing 36 holes in a tie for 75th place with a score of 14-over par (77-81 – 158). Krasnewich carded a pair of birdies and ten pars in round one, with a seven-hole stretch of six pars and one birdie to shoot a five-over 77. In round two, he registered a birdie on the 370-yard par four while adding nine pars, shooting an 81 (+9).
