Seven Generals Etch Names into Record Books

LEXINGTON, Va. - Sophomore Olivia Warr of the Washington and Lee University women's track and field team set a new program record in the 3,000m run while six other student-athletes etched their names into the program's record books on the second day of the Keydet Invitational.

HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE MEET
  • The 3,000m crew delivered a record-breaking performance this afternoon, highlighted by Olivia Warr's stellar run. Warr broke the program record in the event, finishing in second place with a time of 9:57.15 to surpass Samantha Yates' previous mark of 10:01.27. Warr's time currently ranks fifth in Division III.
  • Graduate student Cassie Carr added another impressive performance to her season, clocking a time of 10:05.38 to finish third in the 3k. Her time ranks third in program history and currently stands at 15th in Division III.
  • Junior Sophia Breschi and senior Emma Mitchell also excelled in the 3k. Breschi recorded the fourth-fastest time in program history, crossing the finish line in 10:11.26, which ranks 24th in Division III. Mitchell finished eighth, posting the seventh-fastest time in program history with a time of 10:20.98.
  • In the 4x400m relay, sophomores Simmons Lee, Lucie Graziano, and Jesma Evans teamed up with senior Amanda Romano to clock the seventh-fastest time in program history. The squad finished in eighth place with a time of 4:07.34.
  • First-year Charlotte Gardner rounded out the top-10 finishers for the Blue and White, placing 10th in the 800m with a time of 2:27.09.
  • In the field events, juniors Bailey Hedgemon and Bella Timmerding recorded top-10 marks in the shot put. Hedgemon moved up to No. 2 all-time in program history with a throw of 11.40m (37'-05.00"), while Timmerding posted the ninth-best mark in program history with a throw of 10.59m (34'-09.00"), surpassing Quinlin Zunk's previous mark of 34'-05.00".

  • Warr broke the program record in the 3,000m run, clocking a time of 9:57.15 to surpass Samantha Yates' mark of 10:01.27, set in 2017. Warr's time currently ranks fifth in Division III.
  • Carr moved up to No. 3 all-time in the 3,000m run after finishing in 10:05.38, surpassing Carolyn Todd's previous mark of 10:13.21. Carr's time currently ranks 15th in Division III.
  • Breschi climbed three spots to No. 4 all-time in the 3,000m run with a time of 10:11.26, also surpassing Carolyn Todd's 2023 mark of 10:13.21. Breschi's performance currently ranks 24th in Division III.
  • Mitchell joined the record books in the 3,000m run with a personal-best time of 10:20.98, moving past Sara Stephenson's mark of 10:22.51 set in 2020.
  • In the 4x400m relay, sophomores Simmons Lee, Lucie Graziano, and Jesma Evans teamed up with senior Amanda Romano to clock the seventh-fastest time in program history. The squad finished in 4:07.34, surpassing the 2009 relay team of Hildenbrand, Stier, Armstrong, and Doornbos, who had a time of 4:08.14.
  • Hedgemon moved to No. 2 all-time in the shot put, surpassing Darcy Creed's mark of 37'-01.25" set in 2017. Hedgemon recorded an impressive toss of 11.40m (37'-05.00").
  • Timmerding also made her mark in the shot put, achieving the ninth-best performance in program history. Timmerding's toss of 10.59m (34'-09.00") surpassed Quinlin Zunk's 2022 mark of 34'-05.00".

UP NEXT
  • The Blue and White will split up next weekend as members of the team will compete on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1 at the VMI Winter Relays. Other members will head to Lewisburg, Pa. for the Bison Open at Bucknell University and Warr will compete at the Penn State National Open in University Park, Pa.
