Distance Medley Relay Squad Cracks Top Ten at VMI Invitational

LEXINGTON, Va. - The Washington and Lee University women's track and field team had a strong showing on the first day of the VMI Keydet Invitational, with their distance medley relay squad breaking into the program's top-ten list and four top eight finishers.

HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE MEET
  • Sophomores Lucie Graziano, Sofia Petrucelli, Reese Brown, and senior Adia Vera teamed up in the distance medley relay to cap off the first day of competition. The squad clocked a time of 12:54.26, marking the tenth-fastest time in program history and securing a third-place finish. Their time currently ranks fifth in Division III this season and is the top time in both the south region and the conference.
  • Junior Brianna Breyault, sophomore Brenna Luczak, and first-years Charlotte Gardner and Lane Smith also competed in the DMR on Friday evening. The team crossed the finish line in 13:16.38 to earn a sixth-place finish.
  • Junior Camille Gillum delivered a standout performance in the high jump, finishing second with a season-best mark of 1.65m (5'-05.00"). Her result currently ties her for ninth in Division III while leading the ODAC and the south region rankings.
  • Senior Ashley D'Ambrosia had another strong showing in the pole vault, securing third place finish after soaring over a height of 3.35m (10'-11.75").
  • Junior Bailey Hedgemon wrapped up the individual finishes for the Blue and White with an eighth-place finish in the weight throw. Hedgemon recorded a mark of 15.25m (50'-00.50"), the highest finish among Division III competitors.

  • The Blue and White will be back at VMI for the second day of the Keydet Invitational tomorrow. The action is set to start at 10 a.m. with the women's triple jump, the mile run will kick off events on the track and 10:50 a.m.
