5/3/2024 10:39:00 PM

MILL SPRING, N.C. - Washington and Lee University rider, junior Allison Hines, competed at the Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association (IHSA) National Championships on Friday.

Of the 8000 IHSA riders across the nation, only 400 qualify for the national championships in the 32 sponsored events. This year's competition took place at the Tryon International Equestrian Center in Mill Spring, North Carolina. With her second place finish at zones, Hines qualified and competed in the Intermediate Equitation Over Fences division.

For the third consecutive year, the Generals qualified at least one student-athlete for the individual championships.

Last season, Clare O'Brien '23 took fourth place in the Intermediate Equitation Over Fences and the year before, Lexie Paxton '22 won the individual national reserve champion title in Intermediate Equitation Over Fences.

Riding Savannah College of Art and Design's equine, Crumbles, Hines fell just outside the event's top 8 finishers but was named IHSA Intermediate Fences Honorable Mention for her efforts.

The place-winners for the event included Randolph-Macon's Kelsey Sullivan in third place. Complete IHSA results from the championship weekend can be found, here.
