FOREST, Va. - After finishing second at the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Outdoor Championships just a few weeks ago, the Washington and Lee University men's track and field team had 13 members earn conference accolades while
Zach Moore was named the conference's Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the third time in his career.
The Blue and White tallied 169 points across 20 events over two days of action. Leyti Ndiaye, Evan Langhammer and George Mann were individual champions in the high jump, pole vault and javelin throw while 35 athletes contributed to their team score as they earned points in their respective events.Â
Moore, a senior from Advance, N.C., earned his third straight ODAC / Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award. Moore excels both on and off the track, boasting a 4.0 GPA as an integrated engineering major. He is an eight-time W&L Scholar-Athlete, three-time President's List honoree and has been named to the Academic All-ODAC team every year. Moore has been named to the All-ODAC team twice, once as a third team selection in the 800m and a second team honoree as a member of the DMR team.
Ndiaye became the sixth General in program history to be named an ODAC Champion in the high jump. After finishing fifth just a season ago, Ndiaye cleared a height of 1.93m (6'-03.75") to sweep the indoor and outdoor season championships while earning first team honors. The Generals have won the outdoor pole vault title every season since 2017 while Langhammer becomes the sixth student-athlete to win the event in program history. Mann shined in his ODAC Championship debut, finishing first in the javelin throw to earn All-ODAC honors. Mann's toss of 56.97m (186'-10.75") helped him become the seventh General in program history and third-straight member to win the event.Â
Five student-athletes earned second team honors at this year's championships as Adam Roy, Isaiah Mefford, Leo Avigliano, Danny Jakubowski-Lewis and Robert Cooper finished second in their respective events. Roy recorded a toss of 46.04m (151'-00.50") to climb the hammer throw podium while Avigliano medaled in the discus with a toss of 44.04m (144'-05.75") in his first conference outdoor meet.
