HOLLINS, Va. - The Washington and Lee University equestrian and riding team wrapped up its regular season with two events on Saturday.
The Generals participated in the final IHSA event of the year in the morning to tie for fifth place and finished tied for third place in the program's results for Zone 4 Region 2 regular season scoring.
During the regional championships on Saturday evening, the Generals had five individuals qualify in eight different individual seasons and all five riders will advance to Zones in one division each.
The five Generals qualified for the Zone 4 Finals (April 6 at Sweet Briar) by taking first or second place in one of the eight divisions at the regional championships. The W&L qualifiers include
Julia Luzzio (introductory equitation),
Clare O'Brien (open flat),
Hanna Johnson (limit over fences), Alison Hines (intermediate over fences), and
Elisabeth Marek (open over fences).
O'Brien and Marek are still in the race for the Cacchione Regional High Point Rider award. O'Brien has 83 points and Marek has a score of 79. The pair of Genereals are trailing Hollins' Mallory Francis who has 90 points in the tango for the Cacchione award.

The Generals finished tied for fifth place out of nine in team scoring and collected 12 ribbons in the regular season finale. The Blue and White posted a pair of wins in limit over fences and open equitation on the flat.
Hanna Johnson collected the blue ribbon for the limit fences division and qualified for the regional championships with the first-place finish.
Clare O'Brien claimed top-honors in the open flat section.

FINAL REGIONAL RESULTS
- Senior Rider Clare O'Brien was voted by the region's coaching staff as the Most Outstanding Senior and was also awarded the region's Sportsmanship award.
- Other Washington and Lee nominees included Allison Hines (Sportsmanship Award), Lady (Horse of the Year) and Kaylin Jury (Most Improved).
- The Generals finished tied for third with the University of Virginia with 246 points and trailed the runner-ups ,Virginia Tech, by just three tallies.
- Hollins claimed the regional team season championship for the second year in a row.
