Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

No. 32 W&L opens California trip with 5-4 win over No. 18 CalTech

PASADENA, Calif. – The 32nd-ranked Washington and Lee men's tennis team improved to 5-1 on the season after picking up a 5-4 win over No. 18 CalTech on Wednesday to open its west coast trip.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Juniors Evan Erb and Will Kistler paired up at the top doubles position and grabbed the first team point with an 8-4 win over Andrew Zabelo and Tejas Ram. The Beavers knotted the score with an 8-6 win at No. 3, but Josh Rassin and Heys Parker secured a one-point lead heading into singles with an 8-5 win at No. 2.
 
The Generals then quickly claimed the first three points in singles play to wrap up the win. Parker was first to finish with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 4, followed by a 7-5, 6-4 victory by senior James Kurani at No. 3 and a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 2 from Kistler.
 
Despite the team result decided, the Beavers continued to battle and closed with wins at Nos. 1, 5 and 6. Eric He picked up the win at No. 6 for CalTech, his second win of the day after he and Andrei Staicu paired for the win at No. 2 doubles.
 
NOTEWORTHY POINTS:
Rassin and Parker not only secured the lead for the Generals after doubles play, but they defeated the 20th-ranked duo of Kyle McCandless and Daniel Wen. As a pairing, Rassin and Parker are now 9-2 on the season, a W&L best.
