Pair of Records Fall at Shenandoah Holiday Kickoff

WINCHESTER, Va. - Senior Ashley D'Ambrosia and First Year Katie Wood of the Washington and Lee University women's track and field team set new program records at the Shenandoah University Holiday Kickoff on Sunday. 

HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE MEET
  • D'Ambrosia entered the season ranked third in the program's pole vault record book but claimed the top spot in record books after clearing a height of 3.56m (11' 8.00") in her first meet of her senior season, finishing in first place. Her mark surpassed Lizzy Stanton's previous record of 11'-07.75", which was set during the 2016 indoor season.
  • Katie Wood shined in her collegiate debut, breaking the program record in the shot put with a mark of 11.46m (37'-07.00") to secure third place. Emily Jackson followed with a fifth-place finish in the shot put, recording a toss of 11.17m (36'-07.75") which ranks No. 8 in program history.
  • Adia Vera was the Blue and White's top finisher in the mile run, recording a personal-best time of 5:26.96 to secure second place. Bailey Hedgemon also earned a second-place finish in the weight throw on Sunday. Hedgemon improved her own program record with a toss of 15.46m (50' 8.50").
  • Amanda Romano and Lucie Graziano each secured third-place finishes in their respective events — the 60m hurdles and the 400m dash. Romano posted the third-fastest time in the 60m hurdles prelims with a time of 9.47 seconds before improving to 9.42 seconds in the finals to secure third place. Graziano posted the third-fastest time in the 400m dash, crossing the finish line in 1:02.80.
  • Eve Spencer and Emily Sansbury both finished in the top five in the 3,000m run. Spencer achieved a personal-best time of 10:47.36 to claim third place, while Sansbury crossed the finish line in 11:01.90 to secure fifth place.
  • Madelyn Venable competed in the long jump, placing fourth with a mark of 4.83m (15'-10.00"). Bella Timmerding moved up to No. 5 in the program's weight throw record book, recording a personal-best toss of 12.78m (41'-11.00") to finish in seventh place.
  • Annabelle Sutliff, Ana Hodneland, Graziano, and Romano teamed up in the 4x400m relay to close out the opening weekend. The squad recorded a time of 4:18.63 to finish in second place.

  • D'Ambrosia moved up three spots to claim the program record in the pole vault. Her mark of 3.56m (11'-08.00") surpassed Lizzy Stanton's previous record of 11' 7.75", which was set in 2016.
  • Wood set a new program record in her debut meet with the Blue and White, recording a toss of 11.46m (37'-07.00") to finish in third place. Her mark surpassed Darcy Creed's previous record of 37'-1.25", which was set in 2017. Wood also recorded the eighth-best mark in program history for the weight throw, with a toss of 12.15m (39'-10.25").
  • Hedgemon improved her own program record in the weight throw by one inch, recording a toss of 15.46m (50'-8.50").
  • Timmerding moved up one spot on the program's all-time top-10 list in the weight throw after posting a mark of 12.78m (41'-11.00"). Jackson climbed to No. 6 all-time in the shot put record book after recording a mark of 11.17m (36'-07.75").
