LEXINGTON, Ky. – The 13th-ranked Washington and Lee women's basketball team bounced back from Sunday's loss with a strong 81-60 win over Transylvania on Monday, in which the Generals outscored the Pioneers in each quarter.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Pioneers (6-5) held a 9-7 lead through six minutes of play, as both teams came out of the gates shooting under 40 percent from the field. At the 3:30 mark, W&L (8-2) junior
Quinn McGuinness sank a jumper to tie the game and get the Generals going on a 9-0 run, as they went into the second with a 16-11 lead.
Sophomore
Brianna Shuttlewood nailed a triple to open the second-quarter scoring, as W&L gradually increased its lead to 30-19 by the 4:22 mark. The Pioneers ended the half on a 10-5 run to cut into their deficit, but the Generals opened the third quarter on an 18-5 run to put some distance between them and Transylvania. During that time, the Blue and White had six different scorers and made 8-of-14 shots overall while holding the Pioneers to just 2-of-13 from the field.
Transylvania's Sierra Kemelgor connected on a three-point shot at the 2:47 mark of the third, but W&L junior
Elka Prechel responded with a three of her own on the following possession. W&L then outscored the hosts, 25-23, over the final 11:14 of play, including a 12-4 run in the fourth, to cruise to the victory.
TOP PERFORMERS:
Prechel finished the game with 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting, including 5-of-7 from deep, to go along with three assists. Junior
Mary Schleusner tied Prechel's team-high 17 points, plus 23 rebounds, five assists, one block and three steals. Shuttlewood rounded out W&L's double-digit scorers with 12 points on a perfect 4-for-4 shooting from outside, while McGuinness dished out a team-best six assists.

Sarah Zimmerman also contributed to the team's well-balanced scoring, as all three scored at least eight points and combined for 25 points on 12-of-22 shooting.
Riley Flinn led the Pioneers' offense with 14 points on 4-of-9 shooting, plus four boards and three blocks. Sadie Wurth followed with 13 points, with Kemelgor tallying a game-high seven assists.
NOTEWORTHY POINTS:
The Generals racked up an impressive 28 assists on 34 made field goals, to end the day one helper shy of tying the program single-game record. W&L last reached exactly 28 assists on January 5, 2019, with the record of 29 coming on February 7 of last season and November 30, 2015.
TEAM STATS:
The Generals shot better than 50 percent in three of the four quarters to finish the game at 50.7 percent (34-67) overall, which included nine makes on 17 tries from beyond the arc. They also locked Transylvania down to 32.4 percent (22-68) field goal shooting, including 22.2 percent (4-18) in the third quarter, plus 12 percent (3-25) on three-point shots.
W&L edged the Pioneers 27-24 in bench points, 16-15 in second-chance points and 44-32 in the paint, while Transylvania held a 19-8 positive margin in points off turnovers.

The Generals will play the remainder of their regular season slate in the state of Virginia, starting with their final non-conference game of the season on Thursday at Mary Washington at 4:00 p.m.
