KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The United Soccer coaches recently announced the 2024 Division III Women's Soccer Scholar All-America and All-Region teams, and Washington and Lee's
Sarah Zimmerman,
Bryn Bissinger and
Sydney Devory were each recognized.
Zimmerman highlighted the trio by placing on the Scholar All-America First Team and Scholar All-Region First Team. Bissinger joined Zimmerman on the All-Region First Team and claimed a spot on the Scholar All-America Second Team, while Devory placed on the Scholar All-Region Second Team.
Bissinger, Devory and Zimmerman become the first players for the program to earn at least Scholar All-Region accolades from the United Soccer Coaches since 2021, when Chloe Rapier '22 and Elle Prillaman '21 were both honored. Additionally, Bissinger and Zimmerman are the first two players in program history to make the United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-America teams.
Zimmerman adds another rare academic award to her impressive season after she was named a First Team Academic All-American by the College Sports Communicators last week. The 2024 ODAC Player of the Year and a United Soccer Coaches First Team All-American, Zimmerman had one of the finest seasons in recent program history, as she finished her junior campaign with 37 points on 14 goals and an ODAC-high nine assists, all of which were team highs. Her 37 points were the most for an individual player for the program since Kat Barnes and Van Devender posted 38 and 45, respectively, in 2008.
Bissinger, this season's ODAC Defensive Player of the Year and a United Soccer Coaches Third Team All-American, was a standout for the Generals this season, anchoring a defensive unit that was one of the best in Division III. With Bissinger's help, the Generals allowed just six goals all season, tied for the second-fewest in a season in program history, while posting 19 total shutouts, tied for the most in Division III. Bissinger also added seven points on the offensive end on five assists and a goal, with her assist total tying for fourth on the team.
Devory was another key piece to a dominant W&L backline this season to earn Third Team All-Region laurels. A First Team All-ODAC performer with Zimmerman and Bissinger, Devory helped the Generals post a 0.26 goals-against average this season, which ranks second in Division III this season. Devory also aided on W&L's set pieces this season and accumulated seven points on a goal and five assists.
The Generals, who came in 13th in the final coaches poll of the season, posted one of the best seasons in program history in 2024, as they finished with a 20-2-1 overall record, won the fifth ODAC title in program history and made an NCAA Round of 16 appearance.
