FOREST GROVE, Ore. - The No. 13 Washington and Lee University women's basketball team earned a 75-64 victory against Pacific University (Ore.) in a non-conference matchup on Sunday night.
The Generals (6-1) jumped out to an 11-0 start and never looked back while the Boxers fell to 2-5 inside the Stoller Center.
W&L showcased a balanced scoring attack, maintaining their lead across all four quarters, including a 20-9 edge after the first period. Despite a late push by Pacific, where the Boxers outscored W&L 22-18 in the fourth quarter, the Generals' consistent offensive execution and early lead secured the victory.
TOP PERFORMERS
- For Washington and Lee, Mary Schleusner recorded 23 points, 28 rebounds, five assists, three blocks, and four steals to dominate on both ends of the court.Â
- Quinn McGuinness scored a career-best 20 points, shooting 6-for-7 from the free-throw line while also contributing four rebounds and a pair of assists.Â
- Elka Prechel added 12 points on four buckets from the three-point range.
- For Pacific University, Shaade Williams led the Boxers with 18 points and four rebounds, shooting an efficient 6-for-12 from the field.Â
- Keiki McGee contributed eight points and a team-high eight rebounds while also recording two steals.Â
- Emily Holsan chipped in 10 points, seven rebounds, six steals, and a pair of assists in a strong all-around effort.
NOTEWORTHY POINTS
- This marks the first matchup in program history against the two teams.Â
- With 28 rebounds tonight, Schleusner eclipsed 1,000 career rebounds, now with 1,019 boards.
- The junior forward also moved up to 6th place on the program's all-time scoring list at 1,329. Schleusner passed both Taylor Casey '19 and Kristen Krouchick '08.Â
TEAM STATS
- Washington and Lee shot 38.8 percent from the field, making 26-of-67 attempts, while Pacific shot 37.3 percent on the same number of attempts.Â
- The Generals were more efficient from the three-point line, hitting 7-of-19 shots for a 36.8 percent success rate, compared to Pacific's 26.9 percent (7-for-26).Â
- At the line, W&L converted 16-of-21 free throws(76.2 percent), while Pacific struggled, with just 7-of-13 shots (53.8 percent).
- The Generals dominated the glass, finishing with 57 rebounds, including 23 on the offensive end, which led to 24 second-chance points.Â
- Pacific managed 32 rebounds with 12 on the offensive glass. Washington and Lee scored 34 points in the paint, narrowly edging Pacific's 32.Â
- Bench production was a strength for the Boxers, as they scored 33 points off the bench compared to W&L's eight.
