LEXINGTON, Va. - The 14th-ranked Washington and Lee University women's volleyball team moved to 10-0 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play on Saturday afternoon as they downed the University of Lynchburg in straight sets.
HOW IT HAPPENED vs LYNCHBURG (W&L, 3-0 | 25-15, 25-18, 25-14)
- After a Riley Debiec kill and three errors by Lynchburg (13-11, 5-4 ODAC) gave the Generals a 4-2 lead, the Hornets responded with three straight points to take a one-point lead. Six straight errors by Lynchburg put the Generals (20-2, 10-0 ODAC) up 10-5 before W&L went on a 4-0 run to extend their lead. The run featured kills from Emery Goerig, Avery Myers, and Grace Mitchener. The Blue and White went on a 6-1 run to claim the first set 25-17, highlighted by a pair of kills from Myers and one from Debiec.
- The Generals opened the second set with five straight points, getting kills from Goerig, Allie Buchholz, and Myers. After a Myers kill put the Generals up 13-7, the Hornets responded with a 10-1 run to take a 17-14 lead. The Blue and White battled back to tie the set at 19 after Allison Young recorded a kill and the Hornets committed back-to-back errors. Following a kill by Lynchburg's Tori Williamson, the Generals went on a 6-1 run to claim the second set 25-21. The final run featured three kills from Myers, two from Debiec, and one from Mitchener.
- Just like in the second set, the Blue and White scored the first five points of the third set to take an early lead. The run featured kills from Myers and Goerig, along with an Emily Schellenberg service ace. A few points later, the Generals went on a 5-1 run to extend their lead to nine as Myers recorded a kill and service ace. The Blue and White took an 18-6 lead after a 5-0 run, highlighted by a Myers kill and two Mitchener service aces. Goerig finished off a Buchholz assist for the final kill of the match, giving the Generals their 16th sweep of the season.
TOP PERFORMERS
- Avery Myers led the offensive efforts with a match-high 13 kills on 39 attempts with two errors, posting a .282 hitting percentage and adding nine digs. Lynchburg's Leah DiNardo recorded a team-high eight kills on 18 attempts with four errors for a .222 hitting percentage.
- Jaina Leek of Lynchburg led the match with 31 assists while adding ten digs. Allie Buchholz dished out a team-high 26 assists in the win, moving to sixth all-time in program history with 2,047 career assists.
- Lynchburg's Morgan Clarke led the match with 20 digs, while Vivi Vasquez led the Generals with 18.
- Emery Goerig led the match with four total blocks, with Riley Debiec close behind with three. Bree Spainhour and Ava Meinhardt led the Hornets with two total blocks each.
- Meinhardt posted a match-high three service aces, while Mitchener added two, and Myers and Emily Schellenberg each recorded one.
W&L GAME NOTES
- The Generals move to 21-2 on the season with the win, remaining undefeated in conference play. The Blue and White are now 42-5 against the Hornets in the all-time series, avenging a five-set loss from last season.
- W&L led three of the six team categories this afternoon, recording four service aces and six blocks. The Generals posted 32 kills on 114 attempts with nine errors for a .202 hitting percentage, with a match-high .349 hitting percentage in the second set.
