HARRISONBURG, Va. - The 16th-ranked Washington and Lee University women's volleyball team swept Eastern Mennonite University in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) match on Wednesday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED vs EMU (W&L, 3-0 | 25-11, 25-14, 25-11)
- The Generals (22-2, 11-0 ODAC) kicked off the match with a dominant 10-2 run to take an early lead in the first set. The run featured three kills each from Avery Myers and Emery Goerig, two from Emily Schellenberg, and one from Grace Mitchener. After Eastern Mennonite (7-13, 2-8 ODAC) rattled off three straight points, the Blue and White responded with a 9-1 run to extend their lead to 19-6. The run was highlighted by kills from Myers and Riley Debiec, along with multiple errors by the Royals. W&L pushed the score to 24-9 with back-to-back kills from Mitchener and Schellenberg before Schellenberg finished off an Allie Buchholz assist to claim the first set, 25-11.
- In the second set, the Generals and Royals traded points before W&L went on a five-point run to take a 7-2 lead. The run featured kills from Goerig, Myers, and Debiec, as well as two service aces from Penelope Quiles. Later in the set, the Generals used an 8-2 run to extend their lead to 18-8, with kills from Mitchener and Goerig and a block by Alyssah McGuire and Goerig. Debiec finished off a Buchholz assist to give the Generals a 24-14 lead before Vivi Vasquez sealed the second set with a service ace.
- The Royals took an early 3-1 lead in the third set, but W&L quickly responded with four consecutive points to take a 5-3 lead, courtesy of kills from Myers and Mitchener and a Myers service ace. EMU tied the set at five, but the Generals went on an eight-point run to jump ahead 13-5. The run featured kills from Mitchener and Schellenberg, as well as blocks by Schellenberg, Mitchener, and Buchholz. A pair of kills from McGuire and Myers ignited an 8-1 run that extended the Generals' lead to 23-9. Myers finished off a Buchholz assist to secure the final frame, 25-11, and the sweep.
TOP PERFORMERS
- Myers posted a match-high 12 kills on 30 attempts with one error for a .367 hitting percentage, while Mitchener followed closely with nine kills on 20 attempts and two errors for a .350 hitting percentage.
- Buchholz dished out a match-high 34 assists in the win, adding 11 digs for her 15th double-double of the season. Kaitlyn Custis led the Royals with 14 assists and added seven digs.
- Quiles led the Generals with two service aces, while Vasquez and Myers each recorded one. Vasquez posted a match-high 20 digs, marking her ninth match this season with 20 or more digs.
- Buchholz and Debiec led the match with three blocks each, while Myers and Goerig added two apiece.
W&L GAME NOTES
- The Blue and White move to 22-2 on the season with a perfect 11-0 mark in conference play, having swept 10 of their 11 ODAC opponents this season.
- The Generals led every team category this evening, recording 40 kills on 91 attempts with five errors for a .385 hitting percentage, their second-best performance of the season. They also tallied four service aces, seven blocks, and 53 digs in the win.

- The 16th-ranked Generals will welcome Roanoke College and Stevenson University to Holekamp Gym for a Tri-match on Saturday, Oct. 26. W&L will face Roanoke at 11 a.m. and Stevenson at 4 p.m. Following their match against the Mustangs, the Blue and White will honor their five senior members.
