No. 29 Women's Tennis opens fall slate with sweep at RMC

ASHLAND, Va. – The 29th-ranked Washington and Lee women's tennis team opened the 2023-24 season with a 9-0 sweep of ODAC foe Randolph-Macon on Saturday afternoon.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Generals dropped a combined five games across all three doubles matches, with the No. 2 team of senior Kaitlyn Chalker and sophomore Grace Lorenz posting an 8-0 sweep. Junior Meagan Donovan and sophomore Isabella Custard lost only one game at No. 3, while sophomore Annie Jennings and first-year Haley Stoltz claimed an 8-4 win at No. 1.
 
Chalker completed a perfect day at No. 4 with a 6-0, 6-0 victory, and Stoltz cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 3. Custard (5) and Donovan (6) won by 6-0, 6-2 and 6-3, 6-0 scores, respectively, while Jennings (1) and Lorenz (2) surrendered just four games apiece. Jennings won by a 6-2, 6-2 final with a 6-3, 6-1 win for Lorenz.
 
NOTES OF IMPORTANCE:
With their win over the Yellow Jackets, the Generals improve to 43-0 all-time against RMC and extend their ODAC regular season winning streak to 324 matches.
 
UP NEXT:
The Generals will return to action on Saturday when they travel to Fredericksburg to kick-off the ITA Southeast Region Championship Tournament at the University of Mary Washington. The three-day tournament will see matches get underway at 8:00 a.m. every day.
