Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

No. 11 Generals fly past Randolph-Macon at home, 22-7

LEXINGTON, Va. – Five goals from junior Alex Brown (Norwalk, Conn. / Taft School) and six assists from senior Hudson Pokorny (Darien, Conn. / Darien) highlighted the offensive efforts in the 11th-ranked Washington and Lee men's lacrosse team's 22-7 win over Randolph-Macon on Thursday evening.

The Generals (8-4, 3-2 ODAC) scored the game's first four goals in the opening seven minutes of play, with one coming from Brown and two assisted on by Pokorny. After Randolph-Macon (7-5, 2-2 ODAC) got on the board at the 6:46 mark, three different Generals scored once each over the final four minutes, as the team took a 6-2 lead into the second.

Brown tallied three of his five goals in the game in W&L's 6-0 second quarter, and he added his fifth at the 14:10 mark of the third quarter. Junior Sam Mannino (Fair Haven, N.J. / Rumson Fair Haven) and sophomore Jack Elliott (Suffolk, Va. / Norfolk Academy) then scored once each to cap a 10-0 run from the Blue and White, leaving the Generals ahead by a score of 16-2 with 6:19 left in the third.

Juniors Michael Ott (West Newbury, Mass. / St. John's Prep) and A.J. Levitt (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. / The Benjamin School) both scored twice to lead the Generals' scoring efforts from the point on. An equally strong defensive effort through the game, W&L allowed back-to-back scores just once throughout the entirety of play, which came in the fourth quarter.

Pokorny's six assists marked a new career high, and it also tied for the seventh most in a game in program history. The last time a W&L player assisted on six goals was Stuart Greenspon '21 on February 22, 2020, against Washington College. Brown's five goals also marked a new single-game career best, while Ott tied Brown's five points with four goals and an assist. Mannino finished the game with his second hat trick of the season, while first-year Elliot Cohen (Stamford, Conn. / Taft School) rounded out the three-point scorers with a trio of assists.

On face-offs, junior Will Bou (Chevy Chase, Md. / Landon) took the majority for W&L and prevailed on 10-of-16 attempts. Senior Matt Gallagher (Lynchburg, Va. / E.C. Glass) won 8-of-10 battles at the X, while junior Nick Tussing (Owings Mills, Md. / Gilman) went 3-for-7, as the three combined for a 21-of-33 (0.636) win rate.

Senior Harris Hubbard (Madison, Miss. / Highland Park (Texas)) also had himself a career day, as he caused a single-game best five turnovers, while adding two ground balls. Sophomore Brian Barringer (Sudbury, Mass. / Lincoln Sudbury Regional) finished the day with a game-high five ground balls, with Bou and first-year Colin Beatty (Summit, N.J. / Summit) picking up four each.

Senior goalkeeper Warren Seeds (Atlanta, Ga. / Westminster) was credited with the win after he made 15 saves on 18 shots on goal across the first three quarters. First-year Ryan Boyd (Chatham, N.J. / Chatham) played the fourth quarter and stopped two shots.

Jamie Smith and Bubba Bowen led the R-MC offense with two goals each, while Jack Smith tied for the team high with two points on two assists. Harris Archer and Brodie Kent each collected three ground balls and Owen Gucwa made seven saves in 41:48 of game time. Archer entered in the third quarter for the remainder of the game and made three saves.

W&L's 22 goals marked the fourth game of the season with at least 20, and it was also the first instance with back-to-back games scoring 20 or more since April 22 and 24, 2021, against Randolph and Virginia Wesleyan. The team finished with a 53-38 shot advantage, which included a 32-24 margin in attempts on goal.

The Generals will return to action on April 15 with a 1:00 pm start at Averett, the first of three straight road contests.
