LEXINGTON, Va. – Senior
Hudson Pokorny (Darien, Conn. / Darien) highlighted the No. 8 Washington and Lee men's lacrosse team's 25-6 win over Shenandoah on Wednesday night by breaking the program's single-season assist record.
The previous record of 45, set by Don Carroll '75, was set during the 1975 season. The most recent player to come close to the record Hudson Hamill '20 in 2019, who finished the year with 39. Pokorny assisted on the team's fourth and fifth goals on Wednesday to tie the record, and he set the new mark with his 46th helper of the year on a goal scored by classmate
George Brinn (Cleveland, Ohio / University School).
Brinn's goal with 9:44 left in the second quarter made it a 9-2 advantage for the Generals (13-4, 7-2 ODAC), which jumpstarted a 14-0 run into the third quarter to leave the Blue and White ahead by a count of 22-2. Pokorny added an additional three assists during the run, plus two goals, to finish the night with six assists, to boost his season total to 49.
The Generals' goal-scoring efforts, not only during the 14-0 stretch but in the game, were led by sophomore
Hillis Burns (Louisville, Ky. / St. Xavier), who matched Pokorny's eight points with seven goals and an assist. Burns was feeling it all night, as he ripped 16 shots and put 13 on target, and his season totals in goals, assists and points now stand at 38, 18 and 56, respectively.
Not only did Pokorny break the single-season assists record, but his eight points also moved him into the program's single-season Top 5 for points, as his 86 points this season are tied with Ande Jenkins '97 (1997) for the fourth most. Pokorny can break the single-season points record set by A.J. Witherell '19 in 2018 with six more points.
Junior
Alex Brown (Norwalk, Conn. / Taft School) had a six-point outing on the strength of four goals and two assists to set a new single-season career best with 37 points. Brown also tied the game-high and set a new career high with seven ground balls. Sophomore

Matt Gallagher (Lynchburg, Va. / E.C. Glass) (6-7) and junior
Nick Tussing (Owings Mills, Md. / Gilman) (7-8) both won all but one of their face-off chances to combine with Bou for a 29-of-34 (.853) night.
Senior

Jonathan Hammond forced two turnovers and picked up three ground balls, and goalkeeper Mark Isabelle made 29 saves across all 60 minutes of play.
W&L finished the game with a 72-29 shot margin, which included a 54-17 count in shots on goal. Ground balls (57-21) favored the Blue and White, and the team's 25 goals leave the season total at 310. That marks the second most in a season in program history and trails only the 2019 team's season output of 329 goals.
