W&L topples Randolph, 9-0, on the road

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Washington and Lee men's tennis team dropped just six games total in a 9-0 sweep of Randolph in its return to ODAC play on Wednesday.
 
The Generals improve to 6-1 overall and 3-0 in the ODAC with the win, while the WildCats fall to 1-5 overall and 0-3 in conference play.
 
Sophomore Eli Hirshberg (Alpharetta, Ga. / Johns Creek) and first-year Rider Yeaman (Dallas, Texas / Episcopal School of Dallas) logged a clean 8-0 sweep at No. 2 doubles for the lone doubles shutout. At the top position, junior Connor Coleman (Birmingham, Ala. / Briarwood Christian) and sophomore James Kurani (Charlotte, N.C. / Providence Day) defeated Angelo De Asis and Max Karrass, 8-1, while first-year Jake Vo (Plano, Texas / John Paul II) and senior Evan Brady (Glen Head, N.Y. / Chaminade) matched that result at No. 3.
 
Hirshberg, Coleman, Yeaman and Vo did not surrender a single game in singles play, as Hirshberg played at No. 2, Coleman at No. 3, Yeaman at No. 5 and Vo at No. 6. The other two winners for the Generals were Brady and Kurani. Brady downed Nicolas Alvarado, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 1 singles and Kurani upended Jose Merhej, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 4.
 
The Generals will return to action on Friday for the first day of the home Washburn Invitational. W&L is slated for a 5:00 pm first serve against No. 8 N.C. Wesleyan.
