VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Washington and Lee men's tennis team posted its third 9-0 sweep in four matches, defeating Virginia Wesleyan on the road on Monday afternoon.
This marks the Generals' second ODAC win of the season, with their other coming in a 9-0 victory over Randolph-Macon on September 24. W&L is now 4-0 overall and 2-0 in conference play.
W&L had six players cover the nine matches. Sophomores
Will Kistler (Hilton Head, S.C. / Laurel Springs School) and
Eli Hirshberg (Alpharetta, Ga. / Johns Creek) highlighted doubles play with an unblemished 8-0 win at No. 2. Junior
Connor Coleman (Birmingham, Ala. / Briarwood Christian) and first-year
Rider Yeaman (Dallas, Texas / Episcopal School of Dallas) also made quick work at No. 3, pushing past Jonas Juetz and Stefan Zrnic, 8-2.
All six singles matches ended in straight sets for the Blue and White. Coleman and Yeaman dropped the fewest total games among the singles players (2), as Coleman won, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 5 with a 6-1, 6-1 victory for Yeaman at No. 6.
Sophomore
Evan Erb (St. Louis, Mo. / MICDS) and senior
Evan Brady (Glen Head, N.Y. / Chaminade) rounded out the doubles teams with an 8-4 win at the top spot, while both claimed wins at the top two singles positions, respectively. Kistler defeated, Alen Curovic, 7-5, 6-3, at No. 3 singles and Hirshberg won both sets against Juetz by 6-3 scores.
The Generals will return to action on Friday when they host No. 37 Christopher Newport at 4:00 pm on the first day of the Duchossois Tennis Invitational.
