Generals Tally 10 Top-3 Finishes at Virginia Tech IHSA Show

BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Washington and Lee University equestrian and riding team competed at the Virginia Tech IHSA event on Saturday and earned three wins in the 16 events to finish fifth. 
 

NEED TO KNOW

  • With 27 team points, the Generals placed fifth behind Hollins (39), Tech (36), Lynchburg (31) and the University of Virginia (28).
  • Allison Hines qualified for the Regional Championships Intermediate Over Fences events with a fourth place finish today that pushed her over the regional championship qualification mark. 
  • Elisabeth Marek (Open Fences), Clare O'Brien (Open Flat) and Jade Condrell (Limit Fences) led the way for W&L's team scoring.
  • Bridgewater, James Madison, Roanoke and Ferrum were also included in the field of riders today. 
  • The Generals earned 10 top-3 finishes and placed in the top-5 on 18 occasions today. 
REGIONAL STANDINGS
  • W&L has a regional standings score of 77 points for fifth place. Hollins is first with 110 points followed by VT (88), UVA (83) and Lynchburg (77).
  • With her win over fences and second place showing in the open flat, Marek continues to lead the regional standings for High Point Rider. 

OPEN EQUITATION 

On the Flat
  • In Section B riding Bailey, Clare O'Brien placed first in the Hunter Seat Equitation on the Flat. 
  • Elisabeth Marek took second iin Section A of the Open Flat.
Over Fences
  • Elisabeth Marek won Section A of the Open Over Fences event riding Enzo. 
  • Clare O'Brien took third in the Open Over Fences Section B event. 

INTERMEDIATE EQUITATION

On the Flat

  • Allison Hines placed fourth in intermediate fences and qualified for the regional championships in the event.

NOVICE EQUITATION

  • Abby Hanson took second in her secion of the Novice Hunter Seat Equitation Flat event. 

PRE-NOVICE EQUITATION

  • Abby Portwood notched a fourth place finish on the flat for Pre-Novice. 
  • Irene Tsengas took fifth place in the Pre-Novice Flat event.

The Generals will compete next weekend, November 11-12 in an IHSA Doubleheader event with Hollins, Virginia and James Madison University.
