HOLLINS, Va. - The Washington and Lee University equestrian and riding team opened up the 2023-24 slate with an IHSA event at Hollins University and finished in fifth place as a team and claimed a pair of individual awards. 

Clare O'Brien was tabbed High Point Rider after she finished First in Open Flat Section B and Open Fences and Elisabeth Marek tied for Reserve High Point Rider. 

OPEN EQUITATION 

On the Flat

• Elisabeth Marek took first in Section A of the open flat.
• Clare O'Brien placed first in Section B. 

Over Fences

• Clare O'Brien took first in the Open Over Fences event. 
• Elisabeth Marek placed third in Open Over Fences.

INTERMEDIATE EQUITATION

Over Fences

• Allison Hines placed fourth in the Intermediate Over Fences event. 

LIMIT EQUITATION

On the Flat

• Dara Bage placed third in the Limit Flat.
• Lydia Bowersox finished fourth in the Limit Flat.

Over Fences

• Jade Condrell placed second in Limit Fences.

PRE-NOVICE EQUITATION

On the Flat

• Abby Portwood finished third in the Pre-Novice Flat event. 
• Irene Tsengas took seventh in the Pre-Novice event. 

Introductory

• Julia Luzzio Took second in the introductory fences event. 
• Kelsey Portwood was fourth in the introductory. 
• Kaylin Jury placed fifth in the introductory fences event.  

UP NEXT

The Generals will compete next on October 22 at the University of Lynchburg for another IHSA competition.
