ROME, Ga. – Junior Evan Erb, of the Washington and Lee men's tennis team, forced a third set in the ITA Cup Quarterfinals on Friday, but ultimately fell to Middlebury's Julian Wu.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Down a set after dropping the opener, 6-4, Erb won the first game of the second set and proceeded to break Wu's serve in the second game to grab the early advantage. After holding serve to take a 3-0 lead, Wu came back to win four of the next five games to tie the set at 4-4. Erb held strong, however, and won the next two games to force the decisive third set.

Wu won the first game of the third and held a 2-1 lead through three games, before winning the next four games to close out the match.

In the first set, Wu started strong with a 3-0 lead, before Erb won two straight to get back into it. The two players then traded games to yield the 6-4 first-set score in favor of Wu.

UP NEXT:
With the loss, Erb moves into the "North" consolation bracket. He will play Emil Grantcharov of the University of Chicago on Saturday at 1:00 pm.
