FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Washington and Lee men's tennis junior Evan Erb made his way into the championship match of the main singles draw at the ITA Southeast Region Championships on Sunday, securing a spot in the ITA Cup.

Erb entered the day in the semifinal match, needing to win once to clinch a trip to the ITA Cup. He matched up with Allen Gong of Johns Hopkins in the semifinals and edged past the Blue Jay with a pair of tiebreak wins in the first two sets. Erb's first tiebreak win came by a 7-2 score, followed by a 7-5 win to claim the second set, 7-6.

The championship match went the distance, as Erb and Carnegie Mellon's Raghav Jangbahadur battled it out with All-America status on the line. Erb secured a one-set lead by taking the opener, 6-2, but Jangbahadur forced the third-set tiebreak with a 6-3 win in the second. The Tartan then won the race to 10 points, with Erb managing six points, to end the match.

Erb will be making his second straight trip to Rome, Ga., for the ITA Cup, but it will be his first appearance in the singles draw. Last season, he and doubles partner Evan Brady '23 earned a spot in the doubles bracket with a runner-up placing at the ITA regional tournament.

The ITA Cup is scheduled to run from October 12-16 from the Rome Tennis Center in Rome, Ga. Erb's ITA Cup run will conclude fall action for the W&L men's tennis team, as the next team match is slated for February 18 at Swarthmore.
