WINCHESTER, Va. – The Washington and Lee women's basketball team suffered its first conference loss of the season, 66-52, at Shenandoah on Wednesday.
The Generals (12-5, 9-1 ODAC) used a 9-0 run during the first quarter of play to nab a 13-6 lead through the first six minutes. The W&L lead then grew to eight points with 1:56 left, before a pair of Shenandoah (11-5, 7-3 ODAC) jumpers ended the quarter and started a 23-0 run for the Hornets.

Sofia Feigelson (Millbrook, N.Y. / Millbrook School) nailed a three-point shot, as the Generals outscored SU, 8-2, over the final three minutes to go into halftime trailing by a 37-28 score.
A 7-0 Shenandoah run during the third quarter helped the Hornets build up a 14-point lead with 5:52 remaining. The Generals' first field goal of the quarter came at the 4:37 mark from sophomore
Lauren Achter (Wyckoff, N.J. / Ramapo). Despite shooting 1-for-17 in the third, the Generals managed to alternate scores with SU over the final four and a half minutes, giving the Hornets a 51-34 lead heading to the fourth.
After a Terese Greene layup started the scoring in the fourth, first-year
Elka Prechel (Corvallis, Ore. / Corvallis) provided all nine points in a 9-0 W&L run to cut the deficit to 10 points with just under six minutes to play. During the run, Prechel made a trio of three-point shots. However, the Generals were unable to cut their deficit below 10 across the remainder of the game.
First-year
Mary Schleusner (Charlotte, N.C. / Charlotte Latin School) logged her third straight double-double and seventh of the season with an 18-point, 17-rebound outing. It was also Schleusner's third consecutive game with at least 16 rebounds. Schleusner made 10 of her 13 free throw attempts and also blocked two shots.
Prechel finished with nine points and junior
Grace O'Connor (Hillsborough, N.J. / Hillsborough) matched Prechel's nine points and grabbed six boards.
The Hornets were led by Madison Kimble, who scored 18 points, and Greene, who finished with 16 points, six rebounds and four steals. Emily Williams also had a strong performance, notching six points, nine rebounds and three steals.
W&L finished the game shooting 24.6 percent (16-65) from the floor, which included a mark of .100 (3-30) across the second and third quarters. Shenandoah concluded with a mark of 37.7 percent (26-69) from the floor, and outrebounded the Blue and White by a slim 48-47 margin. The Hornets also held advantages in points off turnovers (20-7) and points in the paint (32-20).
The Generals will return home for their next game, a Saturday 2:00 pm tip-off against Lynchburg.
