BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Washington and Lee riding team totaled two second-place efforts and two-third place showings on Saturday at the Tournament of Champions at Virginia Tech to place sixth out of 14 teams.
The Generals earned the invitation to the tournament with their claiming of the regional title during the 2021-22 campaign. W&L tallied 25 points to earn the sixth-place finish. Savannah College of Art and Design topped the field with 47 points, while Goucher finished as the Reserve Champion after totaling 39 points. Virginia Tech (35), Hollins (32) and Sacred Heart (31) rounded out the Top 5.
Senior
Zoe Cass (Old Greenwich, Conn. / Greenwich) and sophomore
Allison Hines (Powhatan, Va. / J.R. Tucker) had the high finishes for the Generals on the day, as they each earned second place, Cass in the Open on the Flat and Hines in the Intermediate on the Flat. Hines also added a third-place effort in the Intermediate over Fences.
Sophomore
Elizabeth Marshall (Winston-Salem, N.C. / RJ Reynolds) and first-year
Elli Pope (South Berwick, Maine / Marshwood) also turned in strong performances, placing third in the Novice Flat and the Limit Fences, respectively. Senior
Jillian Rosenwasser (New York, N.Y. / Convent of the Sacred Heart) and sophomore
Julia Luzzio (Goshen, Ky.) capped the Top 5 performances from the Generals, as Rosenwasser was fourth in the Open over Fences and Luzzio was fifth in the Intro.
First-years
Elisabeth Marek (Houston, Texas / Saint Johns School) and
Lydia Bowersox (Middleburg, Pa. / Midd-West) also competed for the Blue and White. Marek placed eighth in the High Medal and Bowersox took part in the Low Medal.
The Generals will return to action on February 18 when they return to Blacksburg for the Virginia Tech Invitational.
