ROANOKE, Va. – The Washington and Lee riding team opened the 2022-23 season with a sixth-place finish at the Hollins Invitational on Saturday.
Hollins took the top spot of the day after scoring 37 points. Hollins was followed by Virginia Tech (33) and Virginia (32), while the Generals scored 23 points for sixth.
W&L's efforts were highlighted by sophomores
Elizabeth Marshall (Winston-Salem, N.C. / RJ Reynolds) and
Allison Hines (Powhatan, Va. / J.R. Tucker). Marshall topped the field in the Pre-Novice Equitation, while Hines placed second in the Intermediate Equitation Over Fences and fifth in the Limit Equitation on the Flat.
Seniors
Jillian Rosenwasser (New York, N.Y. / Convent of the Sacred Heart) and
Zoe Cass (Old Greenwich, Conn. / Greenwich) added a third-place performance each, with Rosenwasser in the Open Equitation Over Fences and Cass in the Open Equitation on the Flat.
Junior
Clare O'Brien (Dallastown, Pa. / Dallastown Area) added two Top 5's to the list for the Blue and White, finishing fourth in the Intermediate Equitation Over Fences and fifth in the Open Equitation on the Flat.
The Generals will return to action on Saturday, October 15, when they compete at the Lynchburg Invitational.
