Three Generals earn ITA singles rankings

TEMPE, Ariz. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced the Division III Women's National and Regional individual rankings and Washington and Lee had three players ranked.

Sophomores Gabi Moss (Paradise Valley, Ariz. / Chaparral) and Margaret Carlton (Matthews, N.C. / Charlotte Christian) both appeared in the Top 50 National Singles rankings, while senior Taylor Garcia (Mandeville, La. / Mount Carmel Academy) joined the pair in the Atlantic South Regional singles rankings.

Moss garnered rankings of No. 11 nationally and No. 4 regionally following strong performances during the fall season. She finished as the runner-up at the ITA Southeast Regional Championship at Mary Washington in September to become the first General to qualify for the ITA Cup since Brooke Donnelly '17 in 2016. With her win in the Round of 16 at the ITA Cup, Moss has met the criteria to be named a Division III All-American for the 2021-22 season, which will be officially announced in June 2022.

Moss currently owns a 7-3 singles record this season. She is 3-3 against players ranked in the Top 50, with all three losses coming against players ranked inside the Top 10.

Carlton appears at No. 21 in the national singles rankings and No. 6 in the regional rankings with a 5-1 singles record so far this season. Carlton also advanced to the semifinals at the ITA Regional Championship in September, before falling to No. 9 Crystal Zhou of Carnegie Mellon. Carlton collected a Top 50 win during the ITA regional championship, which came in the quarterfinals against No. 45 Tessa Trate of Johns Hopkins.

Garcia comes in at No. 18 in the Southeast Regional singles rankings with a 2-1 record in the fall. All three matches were played at the ITA Southeast Regional tournament. Garcia advanced to the Round of 16 before falling to Alison Bader of Johns Hopkins, who is ranked No. 14 in the region.

The Generals (1-0, 1-0 ODAC) will begin their spring schedule on February 15 when they host Bridgewater, with the time yet to be determined.
