Box Score LYNCHBURG, Va. – Washington and Lee jumped out to a 10-1 halftime lead in cruising to a 17-2 victory over Randolph in ODAC men's lacrosse action on Wednesday afternoon at WildCat Stadium.
Junior midfielder Joe Perrella (Larkspur, Calif. / Redwood) scored a pair of goals and first-year attackman A.J. Witherell (Wilmington, Del. / Salesianum) notched one goal and one assist, as W&L (12-3, 7-1) built a 4-0 lead in the opening 8:16 of the contest.
Randolph (8-8, 2-6) got on the board at the 4:19 mark of the first period on a man-up goal by junior attackman Graham Southwick, but the Generals responded with a 6-0 run through the second period for the nine-goal halftime advantage. Perrella added two more goals in the second frame, while senior attackman Chris Rusbuldt (Richmond, Va. / Collegiate) also scored twice in the quarter.
Rusbuldt also did damage after the break, scoring twice more in the opening 3:10 of the second half. Senior defenseman Buck Armstrong (Austin, Texas / Episcopal) added his first career goal in the third period, as the Generals built a 15-1 lead en route to the easy victory.
The Blue & White registered a 52-18 advantage in shots and a 49-31 edge in ground balls. W&L also won 12-of-22 faceoffs.
Perrella and Rusbuldt each scored four goals, with Rusbuldt's total amounting to a career-high. Witherell tallied one goal and three assists, while senior midfielder Graeme Weaver (Newtown Square, Pa. / Malvern Prep) chipped in two goals and one assist. Senior midfielder Max Hutson (Houston, Texas / Episcopal) added one goal and two helpers, and Armstrong tied a career-high with eight ground balls, to go along with two caused turnovers.
Senior Wyatt Devine (Norfolk, Va. / Norfolk Academy) played the initial 33:10 in goal and logged four saves with one goal allowed. Sophomore Nic Peterson (Scottsdale, Ariz. / Culver Academy) and first-year Philip Rech (Darien, Conn. / Darien) combined to play the final 26:50, with Rech totaling two saves.
Southwick and junior attackman Shane Soghomonian each found the net for Randolph. Senior Cam Davis played the first 45:58 in goal and notched 13 saves with 15 goals allowed. Sophomore Matt Lindenbaum saw the remaining 14:02 in net and posted five saves and two goals allowed.
Washington and Lee will complete its regular season on Saturday when it travels to Randolph-Macon for a 1:00 pm contest.
