W&L Men's Lacrosse Felled by Roanoke, 6-4

SALEM, Va. – The Washington and Lee men's lacrosse team was held to a season-low four goals in falling to Roanoke College by a score of 6-4 on Wednesday evening at Kerr Stadium.

Roanoke (7-5, 3-3) held the Generals (8-6, 3-3) scoreless until the 8:31 mark of the second quarter, receiving first quarter goals from junior midfielder Joey Dishaw and sophomore midfielder Steven Jackson for a 2-0 lead.

Sophomore midfielder Jonathan Henry (Charlotte, N.C./Providence Day) got W&L on the board when he scored off an assist from senior midfielder Garrett Paglia (Forest Hill, Md./Gilman) at 8:31 of the second quarter, but sophomore attackman Kevin Jackson scored a second goal just one minute later for a 3-1 RC lead.

Sophomore midfielder Joe Perrella (Larkspur, Calif./Redwood) scored unassisted with 0:57 left in the first half to make it a 3-2 game at the break.

The Maroons scored the first two goals of the third period to push out to a 5-2 lead with 3:30 left in the penultimate quarter.  Junior attackman Will Pilat tallied off an assist from first-year defenseman Conn Curry just 14 seconds into the second half and Kevin Jackson scored man-up at 3:30.  Junior midfielder Christian Zanetis (Manhasset, N.Y./Manhasset) found the goal unassisted with 54 seconds left in the quarter to make it 5-3 heading into the final period.

Dishaw scored his second tally 47 seconds into the fourth period, but senior attackman Alex Owen (Westwood, Mass./Noble and Greenough) scored off a feed from Zanetis with 6:10 left to make it a two-goal game (6-4).  However, W&L could not find the goal again as it fell for the fourth time in the last five contests.

The Blue & White held a 40-29 advantage in shots, but put just 15 on goal.  Each team totaled 29 ground balls and the Generals held an 8-6 edge in faceoffs.

Zanetis led the offense with one goal and one assist.  Senior defenseman Colin Fraser (Long Beach, N.Y./Chaminade) collected a team-high six ground balls.  Junior Wyatt Devine (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Academy) played all 60 minutes in goal and posted 11 saves.

Kevin Jackson and Dishaw paced the Maroons with two goals each.  Senior Dylan Torrey notched 11 saves while playing the duration in goal.

Washington and Lee will now break for finals, before returning to action on April 18 for a 3:00 pm meeting with Randolph-Macon.
