Box Score LEXINGTON, Va. – Senior attackman Cam Lewis (Chapel Hill, N.C./Durham Academy) scored four goals to lead the Washington and Lee men's lacrosse team to a 15-5 win over Guilford on Wednesday evening at Wilson Field.
W&L (10-6, 5-3) had five different players find the back of the net in jumping out to a 5-1 lead with 9:18 left in the first half. Guilford (9-5, 3-5) ended the half with a pair of goals 2:39 apart to make it a 5-3 game at the break.
Lewis opened the second half with an unassisted tally at the 11:14 mark, igniting a five-goal run that upped the Generals' lead to 10-3 with 9:24 left in the fourth quarter. Junior attackman Kevin Katzmann (Manhasset, N.Y./Manhasset) and senior midfielder Garrett Paglia (Forest Hill, Md./Gilman) scored back-to-back man-up goals at the 5:03 mark and 3:47 mark of the third quarter, and Lewis scored unassisted with 17 seconds left in the third for a 9-3 lead. Lewis then capped the run with another unassisted tally at the 9:24 mark.
Guilford scored two straight, including a man-up goal by junior midfielder Dylan Haupt (Cary, N.C./Athens Drive) at the 6:41 mark to make it 10-4, but the Generals ended with another five-goal run in the final 4:41 for the final margin.
W&L posted a 45-29 advantage in shots and a 35-24 edge in ground balls. The Blue & White also won 17-of-24 faceoffs led by junior Jack Clarke (Basking Ridge, N.J./Delbarton), who went 14-of-19 and scored a goal.
Senior attackman Cameron Dabir (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich./Culver Academy) notched three scores, while Paglia finished with two goals and one assist. Katzmann notched one goal and two assists, and junior midfielder Christian Zanetis (Manhasset, N.Y./Manhasset) tallied one goal and one helper. Junior Wyatt Devine (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Academy) played the first 57:10 in goal and logged eight saves with five goals allowed.
Junior midfielder Daniel Haupt (Cary, N.C./Athens Drive) led the Quakers with two goals. Senior Thomas Deane (St. Louis, Mo./Ladue) played all 60 minutes in goal and recorded 14 saves.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Virginia Wesleyan for a 1:00 pm contest.
