Box Score LEXINGTON, Va. – The 14th-ranked Washington and Lee men's lacrosse team erupted for nine second-quarter goals en route to an 18-1 win over Bridgewater in ODAC action on Saturday at the W&L Turf Field.
The Generals (7-2, 2-0) led just 2-0 following the first period of play, but received three goals from junior attackman Kevin Katzmann (Manhasset, N.Y./Manhasset) and single goals from six other players in the second period for an 11-0 lead at the halftime break.
Goals from junior midfielder Christian Zanetis (Manhasset, N.Y./Manhasset) and senior attackman Alex Owen (Westwood, Mass./Noble and Greenough) in the first 3:23 of the second half stretched the lead to 13-0, before Bridgewater (4-5, 0-2) got on the board with a goal by junior midfielder Thomas Maher (Shirley, N.Y./Longwood) off an assist from junior attackman Rob Simmons (Huntingtown, Md./St. Mary's Ryken) at 9:25 of the third quarter.
Katzmann found junior attackman Chris Rusbuldt (Richmond, Va./Collegiate) for back-to-back goals at the end of the third period and beginning of the fourth as the Generals claimed their third win in the series against Bridgewater (3-0).
Washington and Lee held advantages of 52-15 in shots, 40-18 in ground balls and 16-6 in faceoffs.
Junior goalkeeper Wyatt Devine (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Academy) played the opening 30 minutes and posted eight saves with no goals allowed. First-year Nic Peterson (Scottsdale, Ariz./Culver Academy) spelled him for the final two quarters and made four saves with one goal allowed.
Katzmann led the way with three goals and two assists, while senior attackman Cam Lewis (Chapel Hill, N.C./Durham Academy) tallied one goal and four assists. Rusbuldt and Zanetis scored three goals each and senior attackman Tyler Goldman (New York, N.Y./Loomis Chaffee) notched two goals and one assist. Sophomore midfielder Joe Perrella (Larkspur, Calif./Redwood) chipped in one goal and two assists.
Sophomore Michael Fairley (Frederick, Md./St. Maria Goretti) started in goal for the Eagles, making six saves with 11 goals allowed in 30 minutes. Junior Andrew Buss (Severna Park, Md./Archbishop Spaulding) played the next 28:14 making seven saves with six goals allowed, while sophomore Conor Lawson (Severna Park, Md./Mt. St. Joseph) saw the final 1:46, allowing one goal.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Tuesday when it hosts Colby for a 6:00 pm contest.
