W&L Men's Lacrosse Ties Goals Record in 29-3 Win at Randolph

LYNCHBURG, Va. — The Washington and Lee men's lacrosse tied the school record for goals in a game with a 29-3 victory at Randolph on Saturday. It marked the fourth time a W&L team has totaled 29 goals, with the last coming in a 29-5 win against Goucher in 1997.

The Generals (8-4, 5-0 ODAC) tallied six goals in the opening quarter to take the early advantage. Junior attackman Tyler Goldman (New York, N.Y./Loomis Chaffee) and sophomore midfielder Will Douthat (Roanoke, Va./Patrick Henry) scored W&L's first two goals, and junior attackman Cameron Dabir (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich./Culver Academy) recorded the next two to take a four-goal lead. 

Sophomore attackman Andrew Gleitz put the WildCats (4-8, 0-5 ODAC) on the board with 5:03 left in the first, but W&L scored two more, including Dabir's third of the game, to take a 6-1 advantage heading into the second.

The Blue and White stretched the lead to 16-3 by the end of the quarter with 10 goals in the period. In the second, first-year attackman Chris Comerford (Manhasset, N.Y./Chaminade) and senior midfielder Tim Werner (Westfield, N.J./St. Anne's-Belfield) each recorded two scores, while Dabir tallied three assists.

W&L held Randolph scoreless in the second half and added 13 goals to its total. Heading into the final quarter with a 24-3 lead, the Generals notched four goals in the first seven minutes, and then first-year attackman Kevin Braddish (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) scored the record-tying goal with 6:22 left in the contest to reach the final margin of 29-3.

For the game, the Generals held a 55-19 advantage in shots and a 56-31 edge in ground balls. W&L also won 23-of-36 faceoffs led by senior midfielder Jared Mitchell (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City), who won 14-of-21 draws.

Dabir led W&L with four goals and four assists, while Comerford added four goals on four shots. Sophomore midfielder Christian Zanetis (Manhasset, N.Y./Manhasset) recorded three goals and Braddish totaled three goals and an assist. First-year attackman Ryan Brady (Tampa, Fla./Tampa Jesuit) and Werner each had two goals, while Goldman registered two goals and an assist.

In goal, Warren Berenis (Ocoee, Fla./Lake Highland Prep), Wyatt Devine (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Academy) and Jason Cleary (Littleton, Colo./Mullen) combined to make seven saves. Cleary played the final 20:04 without allowing a goal. Sophomore Cam Davis, and first-years Eole Lake and McKinzie Garnett split the 60 minutes for the WildCats, totaling 11 saves.

The Generals return to action on Wednesday when they play at Lynchburg at 7:00 pm.
