W&L Men's Lacrosse Grounds Eagles, 9-4

LEXINGTON, Va. – The eighth-ranked Washington and Lee men's lacrosse team used a six-goal run across the third and fourth periods to post a 9-4 win over Mary Washington on Wednesday evening at Wilson Field.

The Generals (7-1) jumped out to a 1-0 lead just 1:53 into the game when sophomore attackman Tyler Goldman (New York, N.Y./Loomis Chaffee) scored off an assist from senior midfielder Cooper Brown (Baltimore, Md./Towson).  Junior midfielder Jack Reuter (Rockville Center, N.Y./Chaminade) added an unassisted goal at 3:28 for a 2-0 lead, and Goldman then found sophomore attackman Cameron Dabir (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich./Culver Academy) just 39 seconds later for a 3-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The Mary Washington (5-2) defense then stiffened, holding the Generals scoreless during the second quarter while adding a goal themselves.  Junior attackman Luke Dick (Annapolis, Md./Archbishop Spaulding) scored unassisted at the 9:50 mark and W&L carried a 3-1 lead into the half.

UMW cut it to a 3-2 game on an unassisted goal by senior attackman Paul Tunick (Annandale, Va./Woodson) at the 12:39 mark of the third period, but then the Generals began their run.  First-year midfielder Will Douthat (Roanoke, Va./Patrick Henry) scored unassisted in transition at 11:21 for a 4-2 lead, and junior midfielder Joe Wood (Bronxville, N.Y./Bronxville) scored man-up from sophomore midfielder Garrett Paglia (Forest Hill, Md./Gilman) at 5:03 for a 5-2 advantage.  Senior attackman Mac Means (Sewickley, Pa./Sewickley Academy) then scored off a feed from senior midfielder Luke Heinsohn (Charlottesville, Va./Covenant) with one second left in the third period to stretch the lead to 6-2.

Reuter scored his second goal of the game from Dabir at 11:26 of the fourth period and sophomore attackman Cam Lewis (Chapel Hill, N.C./Durham Academy) capped the run with an unassisted tally at the 9:41 mark.  Mary Washington notched a pair of scores in the final 4:31 for the five-goal margin.

Dabir led the W&L offense with two goals and one assist, while Reuter had two scores.  Wood and Goldman chipped in one goal and one assist each.  Sophomore Warren Berenis (Ocoee, Fla./Lake Highland Prep) played the first 56:44 in goal and recorded nine saves with one goal allowed.  Junior Dylan Florig (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern Regional) played the final 3:16 and allowed one goal.

Tunick paced the Eagles with two goals, while Dick had one goal and one assist.  Junior Zack DelGrosso (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) played the duration in goal and posted 10 saves.

Washington and Lee returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Guilford for a 3:00 pm contest.
