Box Score ASHLAND, Va. – Junior midfielder Luke
Heinsohn (Charlottesville, Va./Covenant) scored unassisted 1:58
into overtime to lift the Washington and Lee men's lacrosse team to
a 14-13 victory over Randolph-Macon on Saturday at West Field.
The Generals trailed 12-9 with 8:46 left in the game, but scored
four of the final five goals in regulation to force overtime.
Heinsohn started the W&L (8-8, 3-4) rally when he scored off an
assist from junior midfielder Cooper Brown
(Baltimore, Md./Gilman) with 7:38 left in the fourth quarter.
Sophomore midfielder Jared
Mitchell (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) won the ensuing
faceoff and scored unassisted just 22 seconds later to pull the
Generals within 12-11.
Junior midfielder Will Garrett
(Purcellville, Va./Highland School) knotted the game on a goal off
a feed from junior attackman Mac Means
(Sewickley, Pa./Sewickley Academy) at 4:31 and W&L took its
first lead since the opening minutes when Meehan scored man-up from
first-year attackman Cameron
Dabir (Grosse Point Farms, Mich./Culver Academy) with 3:11
left.
The W&L lead lasted all of 31 seconds, before Randolph-Macon
(9-7, 3-4) sophomore attackman Brett Austin scored off an assist
from sophomore midfielder Jason Andrews to tie the game at
13-13. The Generals had several shots at the end of
regulation, but could not produce the game-winner before the extra
session.
A four-goal run by the Yellow Jackets broke open a 2-2 game late
in the first quarter and Randolph-Macon held the advantage until
Garrett tied the contest with 4:31 left.
Heinsohn was the Generals' leading scorer, tallying a
career-high four goals and one assist. Meehan posted three
goals, while Dabir notched two goals and one assist. Mitchell
logged one goal and one assist, and won 21-of-27 faceoffs.
First-year Warren
Berenis (Ocoee, Fla./Lake Highland Prep) played all 60 minutes
in goal and registered 10 saves.
Randolph-Macon was led by senior attackman Jake Leddy's three
goals and one assist. Senior attackman Tyler Midwinter
registered two goals and four assists, and senior goalkeeper Jason
Crawford posted nine saves while playing the duration in goal.
Washington and Lee will now wait to see what its seeding will be
for the ODAC Tournament which begins on Wednesday.
