Box Score GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Washington and Lee men's lacrosse
team used an 11-goal run over the first three periods to cruise to
a 14-4 victory over Greensboro College on Wednesday afternoon at
Pride Field.
Junior attackman Mac Means
(Sewickley, Pa./Sewickley Academy) gave the Generals (7-8) a 1-0
lead when he scored off an assist from junior midfielder Will Garrett
(Purcellville, Va./Highland School) just four minutes into the
game. W&L increased its lead to 2-0 at the 5:10 mark of
the first quarter when sophomore midfielder Joe Wood
(Bronxville, N.Y./Bronxville) found the net off a feed from senior
midfielder Sam Mott (Grosse
Pointe, Mich./Grosse Pointe South).
Greensboro (8-7) got on the board with 3:34 left in the first
period when junior attackman Ryan McNamara scored from sophomore
attackman Scott Showalter, but senior attackman Scott Meehan
(Baldwinsville, N.Y./Manlius-Pebble Hill) and junior midfielder Luke
Heinsohn (Charlottesville, Va./Covenant School) both scored
unassisted to start the decisive run as W&L claimed a 4-1 lead
after 15 minutes of play.
First-year midfielder Garrett
Paglia (Forest Hill, Md./Gilman) made it 5-1 when he scored
from Means at 12:15 and Meehan scored unassisted just 1:30 later
for a 6-1 lead. First-year attackmen Cam Lewis
(Chapel Hill, N.C./Durham Academy) and Cameron
Dabir (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich./Culver Academy) then hooked
up for a goal (Dabir with the assist) at 8:41 to make it 7-1 at the
break.
Dabir tallied one goal and two assists and Meehan added one goal
and one assist as W&L scored six third-quarter goals to pull
out to a 13-1 lead. The Generals then cruised through the
final 15 minutes and change to break a two-game losing streak.
Meehan led W&L with three goals and one assist, while Dabir
posted one goal and three helpers. Paglia, Wood and Lewis all
scored two goals apiece, and Means and Heinsohn added one goal and
one assist. First-year Warren
Berenis (Ocoee, Fla./Lake Highland Prep) played the opening
three quarters in goal, making 11 saves with two goals
allowed. Sophomores Dylan Florig
(Voorhees, N.J./Eastern Regional) and Patrick
Jennings (Reisterstown, Md./Boys' Latin) both played in the
final 15 minutes and combined for four saves with two goals
allowed.
Senior attackman Bill Blakley scored two goals and McNamara had
one goal and one assist to pave the Pride. Junior Mitchell
Kanowicz patrolled the goal for the duration, making 16 saves.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Saturday when it travels
to Randolph-Macon for a 12:00 pm contest.
