Box Score LEXINGTON, Va. – Salisbury sophomore goalkeeper Alex
Taylor (Woodbine, Md./Glenelg) posted 14 saves and allowed just one
goal as the top-ranked Seagulls defeated Washington and Lee, 13-3,
in men's lacrosse action on Wednesday at Wilson Field.
Taylor was nearly flawless between the pipes, holding the
Generals (4-3) without a goal until first-year defenseman Peter
Schubert (Louisville, Ky./Louisville Collegiate) scored on a
fast break with 12:31 remaining in the game.
The Seagulls (8-0) received goals from six different players in
carrying a 6-0 lead into the halftime break. A four-goal run
during the third period that featured three tallies by senior
attackman Erik Krum (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Mira Costa) stretched
the lead to 10-0 heading into the final period.
After Taylor was relieved by sophomore Mitch Meredith
(Annapolis, Md./Archbishop Spaulding) with 9:40 remaining, the
Generals found some traction. Sophomore midfielder Joe Wood
(Bronxville, N.Y./Bronxville) scored unassisted at the 6:41 mark
and first-year attackman Cam Lewis
(Chapel Hill, N.C./Durham Academy) found the net off a Wood feed
with eight seconds remaining.
For the game, W&L held a 38-36 advantage in shots and a 13-7
edge on faceoffs. Each team collected 30 ground balls.
Wood paced the Generals with one goal and one assist, while
sophomore Patrick
Jennings (Reisterstown, Md./Boys' Latin) played the first 53:19
in goal, making six saves with 12 goals-allowed. First-year
Warren
Berenis (Ocoee, Fla./Lake Highland Prep) played the final 6:41
and notched one save.
Krum notched four goals and one assist, while senior midfielder
Sam Bradman (Canton, N.Y./Canton) registered two goals and four
assists to lead Salisbury. Senior attackman Matt Cannone
(Bayport, N.Y./Bethpage) logged two goals and four helpers, and
senior attackman Tony Mendez added two goals and one assist.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Saturday as it opens
ODAC play by hosting Hampden-Sydney at 1:00 pm.
