Box Score BROOKLANDVILLE, Md. – Franklin & Marshall closed the
game with three unanswered goals to post a 12-11 victory over
Washington and Lee in men's lacrosse on Saturday afternoon at St.
Paul's School.
The Generals (4-2) broke a 9-9 tie at the end of three quarters
when they scored two goals in the opening 52 seconds of the final
period for an 11-9 lead at the 14:08 mark. First-year
attackman Cameron
Dabir (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich./Culver Academy) scored off a
feed from senior attackman Scott Meehan
(Baldwinsville, N.Y./Manlius-Pebble Hill) at 14:19 and then Meehan
scored from junior Luke
Heinsohn (Charlottesville, Va./Covenant) 11 seconds later for a
two-goal advantage.
F&M (4-1) pulled to within one goal on an unassisted tally
by senior midfielder Jimmy Wenk at 12:47 and drew even at the
5:41 mark when senior midfielder Kevin Kilpatrick notched an
unassisted score. Kilpatrick then capped the Diplomats' rally
when he scored off a feed from senior attackman Colin McKew with
2:27 left.
W&L had several chances to score in the final minutes, but
could not find the equalizer as it fell to F&M for the fourth
time in the last five meetings.
The Diplomats scored four straight goals over the first and
second periods to push out to a 6-3 lead, before goals by Meehan
and junior attackman Mac Means
(Sewickley, Pa./Sewickley Academy) made it a 6-5 game at the
halftime break. Following an F&M goal at 13:29 of the
third quarter, the Generals strung together a four-goal run of
their own for a 9-7 lead with 9:55 left in the third quarter.
Dabir scored a pair of goals during the run, while Meehan notched
assists on a pair of scores.
F&M sophomore attackman Billy Kempner then scored twice off
assists from McKew in the final 9:07 of the third quarter to tie
things up heading into the decisive final quarter of play.
Meehan paced the Generals with a career-high seven points on
three goals and four assists. Dabir totaled three goals,
while Means posted two goals and one assist. Sophomore Patrick
Jennings (Reisterstown, Md./Boys' Latin) played the entire game
in goal and registered 10 saves.
Franklin & Marshall was led by three goals and one assist
from Kempner and five assists from McKew. Kilpatrick, Wenk
and junior attackman Tristan Miller added two goals apiece.
Sophomore Cameron Setian notched four saves in 60 minutes between
the pipes and senior midfielder Andrew Setian controlled the
faceoff X, winning 19-of-27 faceoffs.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts
top-ranked Salisbury for a 4:00 pm contest.
