Box Score LEXINGTON, Va. – The 11th-ranked Washington and Lee
men's lacrosse team used a pair of four-goal runs sandwiched
around a single tally by Virginia Wesleyan for an 11-5 victory over
the Marlins in the ODAC-opener for both teams on Saturday afternoon
at Wilson Field.
The Generals (7-1, 1-0) trailed 2-1 late in the first quarter,
but a pair of goals by junior attackman Spence Daw (Phoenix,
Md./Loyola-Blakefield) in a span of 1:28 gave W&L a 3-2 lead
with 2:14 left in the first quarter. Senior midfielder Logan
Bartlett (Summit, N.J./Pingry School) also scored consecutive goals
at 13:21 and 8:51 of the second period to give W&L a 5-2
advantage.
Virginia Wesleyan (5-3, 0-1) made it 5-3 on a goal by sophomore
attackman Adam Nycz (East Aurora, N.Y./Iroquois) off an assist by
senior midfielder Jed Lynch (Salem, Va./Salem), but the Generals
went on another four-goal run aided by one goal and two assists
from Daw and senior attackman Will Keigler (Timonium, Md./Gilman)
for a 9-3 lead with 13:31 left in the fourth quarter. Each
team added two more goals for the final margin.
Washington and Lee was paced by Daw and first-year attackman Mac
Means (Sewickley, Pa./Sewickley Academy), who totaled three goals
and two assists each. Keigler posted one goal and five
assists, while Bartlett amassed three goals and one helper.
Senior Matt Mason (Gladwyne, Pa./St. Mark's) played all 60
minutes in goal for W&L and recorded seven saves.
The Marlins were led by senior attackman Tim Homa (Baltimore,
Md./Loch Raven), who registered three goals. Lynch added two
assists and junior Tyler Keech (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) logged all
60 minutes in goal and recorded 14 saves.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Tuesday as it takes on
fifth-ranked Middlebury at Georgetown University. Opening
faceoff is slated for 7:00 pm.
