BRIDGEWATER, Va. -- The Washington and Lee baseball team had a five-game winning streak snapped with an 18-4 loss at Bridgewater on Tuesday afternoon.
The Eagles jumped out to a 13-1 lead after five innings and cruised to the 14-run victory.
W&L (13-5, 4-3 ODAC) was led by first-year outfielder
C.J. Thompson (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla./Nease), who went 2-for-3. Junior third baseman
Jim Plantholt (Pylesville, Md./North Harford) finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, while junior second baseman
John Ditore (Seattle, Wash./Bishop Blanchet) added two hits in five at-bats. Senior designated hitter
Terrence McKelvey reached base on a pair of walks and scored two runs.
Senior righthander
Andrew Henderson (Atlanta, Ga./Pace Academy) took the loss for the Generals as he allowed seven runs on eight hits in two innings of work. He walked two and struck out one.
Bridgewater (10-12, 4-4) was paced by designated hitter Kevin Kirk, who had a 4-for-4 showing at the plate. Kirk scored three runs and had one RBI. First baseman Mitchell Edwards was 3-for-5 with three RBI and a run scored, while leftfielder Michael Lenox was 2-for-4 with a homerun, four RBI and two runs scored.
Drew Elkins started for the Eagles and limited W&L to one run on eight hits over seven innings. Elkins struck out two and walked one.
W&L returns to action on Thursday when it hosts Southern Virginia at 3:00 pm.
