LEXINGTON, Va. -- Senior attackman Brian McCulloch (Annandale, Va./W.T. Woodson) and junior midfielder Ryan Cranston (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) notched three goals and one assist apiece and junior goalkeeper Garrett Curran (Hull, Mass./Tabor Academy) posted 18 saves as 12th-ranked Lynchburg handed 17th-ranked Washington and Lee a 12-3 loss in ODAC men's lacrosse action on Saturday evening at the W&L Turf Field.
The Hornets (12-3, 3-2) jumped out to a 6-0 lead on two goals by McCulloch and Cranston and two more from sophomore attackman Tyler Tolson (Lutherville, Md./Loyola). The Generals dented the scoreboard with 1:01 remaining before the half on a goal by junior attackman Ned Rider (Manakin-Sabot, Va./Collegiate) off a feed from sophomore midfielder Harry St. John (Essex Fells, N.J./West Essex), but Lynchburg opened the third period with four-straight tallies, including a pair from junior attackman Johnny Black (Timonium, Md./St. Paul's), for a commanding 10-1 lead with 58 seconds left in the third quarter.
St. John paced the W&L (9-5, 4-2) offense with one goal and one assist, while senior goalkeeper Chris Lalli (Cranbury, N.J./Princeton) recorded 15 saves in goal.
McCulloch and Cranston paced the LC offense, while Tolson chipped in three goals and junior attackman Stephen Weis (St. Louis, Mo./Christian Brothers) added one goal and a game-high three assists.
Washington and Lee will now be the fourth seed for the ODAC Tournament and will travel to top-seeded Roanoke College for a semifinal contest. The game date and time are to be determined.
