LEXINGTON, Va. -- Cabrini held Washington and Lee scoreless in the second half and notched single goals in the third and fourth periods as the 20th-ranked Cavaliers downed the 16th-ranked Generals, 6-5, in men's lacrosse on Saturday afternoon at the W&L Turf Field.
The Generals (1-0) carried a 5-4 lead into the break on the strength of two goals and one assist by freshman attackman Will Keigler (Timonium, Md./Gilman) and one goal and one assist from sophomore midfielder Harry St. John (Essex Fells, N.J./West Essex).
Cabrini (1-0) tied the game at 5-5 with 2:05 left in the third period on a goal by sophomore attackman Scott Reimer (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) off an assist from junior attackman Dan Leigh (Bala Cynwyd, Pa./Harriton) and got the game-winner from junior midfielder Pat Jenkins (South Brunswick, N.J./South Brunswick) with 12:11 left in the game.
Keigler and St. John led the W&L offense, while freshman midfielder Kevin Feeney (Summit, N.J./Summit) and sophomore attackman Seth Fishman (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Haverford) also found the net. Senior netminder Chris Lalli (Cranbury, N.J./Princeton) stopped 15 shots on the day.
Junior midfielder Dan DeRosa (Pleasantville, N.Y./Pleasantville) led the Cavaliers with one goal and two assists, including the helper on the game-winning tally. Reimer added one goal and one assist. Senior Kevin Quinn (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) turned away 10 shots in goal.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Wednesday as it hosts York College for a 3:30 pm contest at the W&L Turf Field.
