HUNTINGTON, Pa. -- Juniata College, ranked 14th in Division III, scored three second-half goals to defeat the Washington and Lee field hockey team, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon in Huntington, Pa.
The Eagles (9-0) broke the scoreless tie at the 43:11 mark as Leslie Stern scored on a penalty corner off an assist from Erin Smith. Sarah Bender added to the lead with a goal off a feed from Stern at 50:14 and the Eagles capped the scoring on an unassisted tally from Kim Wagner at the 57:16 mark.
W&L outshot Juniata, 10-9, and held a 12-9 advantage on penalty corners. Junior goalkeeper Tara Rubenstein (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr) notched four saves for the Generals, while Abby Funk stopped nine shots for the Eagles.
Washington and Lee (6-3) returns to action on Wednesday as it travels to Roanoke for a 4:30 pm contest.
