LEXINGTON, Va. — The No. 21 Washington and Lee University field hockey team placed six student-athletes on the 2025 NFHCA Division III All-Region VI Teams, as announced Tuesday by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA). The Generals' six selections mark one of the program's largest regional totals in team history and tie for the most among Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) programs.
First-year
Madeline Lancione and sophomore
Margaret Scheurer earned First Team All-Region VI honors, while seniors
Sydney Baggett,
Betty Boatwright,
Julia McDonald, and junior
Zoe Dolfis were recognized on the Second Team.
This year's six total selections matches the program-best mark set in 2021 with six Generals recognized with All-Region status.
The NFHCA Division III All-Region awards, sponsored by Apex Field Hockey, honor the nation's top players across six geographic regions. Each region recognizes up to 16 student-athletes per team, with selections determined by member coaches.
Washington and Lee finished the 2025 campaign 14–5 overall and 7–1 in the ODAC, advancing to the conference semifinals and spending six consecutive weeks in the NFHCA national Top 25. The Generals were 8–0 at home and recorded six shutouts behind one of the league's top defensive units.
The NFHCA will announce the Regional Players of the Year on December 11, followed by the All-America Teams on December 16 and the National Player of the Year on December 18.
First Team All-Region VI
Madeline Lancione capped a standout rookie season with her second major postseason honor after being named First Team All-ODAC. The forward registered 10 goals and four assists (24 points), including three game-winners against Randolph-Macon, No. 16 Lynchburg, and Roanoke in the ODAC quarterfinals. Lancione was also tabbed ODAC Offensive Player of the Week on October 27.
Margaret Scheurer, a transfer from the University of Richmond, anchored the midfield in her first season with the Generals. She led W&L in scoring with 11 goals and four assists (26 points), including three game-winning goals, and earned First Team All-ODAC recognition earlier this fall.
Second Team All-Region VI
Sydney Baggett collected her first All-Region selection after producing a strong final campaign as co-captain. The senior forward recorded 10 goals and four assists (24 points), ranking among the ODAC's top threats.
Betty Boatwright closed her career with her second All-Region honor after being named Second Team All-ODAC. The four-year starter scored 11 goals with one assist in 2025, highlighted by two hat tricks, including all three W&L goals in the ODAC semifinals. Boatwright graduates ranked sixth all-time in career goals (39) and seventh in career points (89).
Zoe Dolfis (Fairfax, Va.) earned her second All-Region nod, joining her rookie campaign accolades, following another consistent year in the midfield. The junior started all 19 contests, totaling four goals and four assists (12 points) while playing a pivotal two-way role in W&L's transition and penalty corner units.
Julia McDonald (Guilford, Conn.) rounds out the Generals' honorees after anchoring one of the region's stingiest defenses. The senior goalkeeper posted a 1.18 goals-against average, .750 save percentage, and six shutouts, earning two ODAC Defensive Player of the Week awards and one NFHCA National Defensive Player of the Week honor (Sept. 10) notching her as one of the most successful goalkeepers in program history, making her way into the top-10 in several career and season stastical categories.
