LEXINGTON, Va. -- Junior righthander David Crowe (New Albany, Ind.) pitched a complete game shutout, allowing just five hits with eight strikeouts to propel the West Virginia Tech baseball team to a 12-0 win over Washington and Lee on Tuesday afternoon at Cap'n Dick Smith Field.
The Golden Bears (11-18) took a 3-0 lead in the second inning and plated four more in the third, including a two-run single by sophomore second baseman Derrick Sadlowski (Shadyside, Ohio), to take a 7-0 advantage.
WV Tech then scored two runs in the fourth inning and a single run in the fifth on an RBI single by junior catcher Nate Himes (Fredrick, Md.) to push its' lead to 10-0. The Bears closed out the scoring with a pair of runs in the eight inning on an RBI double by junior third baseman Curtis Morgan (Shady Spring, W.Va.) and a run scoring single by senior Andy Kees (Oak Hill, W.Va.).
The Generals were led at the plate by sophomore leftfielder James Madden (Dallas, Texas/Highland Park), who went 2-for-4. Junior designated hitter Jordan Wesley (Winston-Salem, N.C./R.J. Reynolds) and junior third baseman Clayton Edwards (Atlanta, Ga./Westminster) both batted 1-for-2. Sophomore lefthander John Parker (Lawrence, Kan./Lawrence) gave up seven runs, five earned, on nine hits in three innings to take the loss (2-4).
For the Golden Bears, Morgan finished 3-for-5 with a double, two runs and two RBI, while Sadlowski batted 2-for-4 with three RBI.
W&L returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Randolph-Macon for a doubleheader. The first game begins at 1:00 pm.
