Generals Defeat Guilford, 13-3

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Washington and Lee men's lacrosse team outscored Guilford 9-2 in the second half en route to a 13-3 win over the Quakers in ODAC action on Wednesday afternoon in Greensboro, N.C.

The Generals (4-4, 1-2) led 2-0 after the first period on goals by senior attacker Clark Finney (Baltimore, Md./Gilman) and junior midfielder Charlie Clarke (Short Hills, N.J./Delbarton). Sophomore midfielder Max Sandler (Virginia Beach, Va./Norfolk Academy) assisted on Finney's tally.

W&L then outscored Guilford 6-2 over the second and third periods to push its advantage to 8-2. Freshman midfielder Harry St. John (Essex Falls, N.J./West Essex) and junior attacker Grant Martin (Towson, Md./Calvert Hall) both scored two goals during the run, while freshman attacker Tim Skeen (Baltimore, Md./Towson) notched a goal and an assist.

The Generals tallied the first five goals of the fourth period to increase their lead to 13-2 with 4:34 left in the quarter, including three goals by sophomore attacker Will Englehart (Cockeysville, Md./Dulaney) and two assists by St. John. Guilford closed out the scoring off a goal by senior midfielder Bryan Borchard with just 2:08 remaining in the contest.

St. John finished with two goals and two assists, while Skeen and Finney both had one goal and two helpers. Junior goalkeeper Chris Lalli (Cranbury, N.J./Princeton) played the first 55:19 and made nine saves, while freshman Alex Heaton (Atlanta, Ga./Lovett) was between the posts for the final 4:41 and stopped one shot.

For Guilford, Borchard and sophomore midfielder FJ Ientile each notched a goal and an assist. Sophomore goalkeeper Andrew Vigne played the entire game and made 11 saves.

The Generals return to the field on Saturday when they host Virginia Wesleyan at 1:30 pm.
