W&L Falls at No. 5 Gettysburg, 17-2

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Junior midfielder Jared Harriman scored four goals and added two assists to help lead the fifth-ranked Gettysburg men's lacrosse team to a 17-2 win over 17th-ranked Washington and Lee on Saturday afternoon in Gettysburg, Pa.

The Bullets (1-0) led 2-0 after the first period on goal by Harriman off an assist from junior attacker Greg Montgomery and an unassisted tally by junior midfielder Kevin Freehill. Gettysburg increased its lead to 4-0 with 12:58 left in the second period before W&L cut the deficit to 4-1 when junior attacker Grant Martin (Towson, Md./Calvert Hall) scored off an assist from senior midfielder Perrin Monroe (Washington, D.C./Phillips Exeter). However, Gettysburg tallied the next eight goals over a span of 21:25 to take a 12-1 advantage with 4:42 left in the third period.

The Generals tallied its second goal off the game with 3:47 left in the third quarter when junior midfielder Matt Arcati (Lloyd Harbor, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) scored off a feed from junior midfielder Jim Ryan (Virginia Beach, Va./Norfolk Academy) to make the score 12-2. The Bullets then netted the final five goals of the contest.

W&L junior goalkeeper Chris Lalli (Cranbury, N.J./Princeton) made nine saves in 45 minutes of action. Freshman Alex Heaton (Atlanta, Ga./Lovett) played the final 15 minutes between the posts and stopped three shots.

Harriman was aided by senior attacker Chase Stewart, who notched three goals and two assists. Junior goalkeeper Pat Vaughan played the opening 48:33 and made five saves, while senior Stuart Brown and freshman Zachary Furshman played the final 11:27 and combined to stop three shots.

The Generals return to the field on Wednesday when they host 11th-ranked Ithaca at 3:30 pm.
