LEXINGTON, Va. -- Seventh-ranked Washington College used a three-goal run at the end of the third period and held off a Washington and Lee rally in the fourth period to defeat the Generals, 8-6, on Saturday evening at the W&L Turf Field.

W&L (2-2) trailed just 5-4 early in the third quarter, but the run started with 8:10 left in the period on an unassisted goal by junior attackman Kevin Nolan (Clark, N.J./A.L. Johnson). Senior attackman Sam Lane (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield) then found rope off an assist from sophomore midfielder Andrew Generazio (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) at the 4:43 mark, and junior midfielder Andrew Ostrusky (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) scored unassisted at the 1:33 mark to give the Shoremen an 8-4 lead.

The Generals countered in the fourth period as junior midfielder Jim Ryan (Virginia Beach, Va./Norfolk Academy) scored unassisted at the 8:54 mark, and sophomore attackman Ned Rider (Manakin-Sabot, Va./Collegiate) scored off an assist from freshman attackman Tim Skeen (Baltimore, Md./Towson) with 3:44 left.

W&L fired 14 shots in the final period, including several from point blank range in the closing minutes, but Washington senior goalie Kevin Thibadeau (Cheshire, Conn./Avon Old Farms) kept W&L off the board the rest of the way, making five saves in the final period.

W&L was led by Ryan and freshman midfielder Harry St. John (Essex Falls, N.J./West Essex), who each scored two goals. Rider added one goal and one assist, while junior goalkeeper Chris Lalli (Cranbury, N.J./Princeton) notched 14 saves between the pipes.

Lane, Ostrusky and sophomore attackman Chris Read (Baltimore, Md./Boys' Latin) each scored two goals for the Shoremen (4-0). Nolan chipped in one goal and one assist, and Thibadeau finished with 15 saves.

Washington and Lee returns to action next Sunday against Franklin & Marshall at Boys' Latin School in Baltimore, Md.
