W&L Men's Lax Falls to Mary Washington, 9-6

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The University of Mary Washington scored six consecutive goals over the second and third periods en route to a 9-6 victory over fifth-ranked Washington and Lee in men's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon in Fredericksburg, Va.

The Generals (5-1) jumped out to a 3-1 lead at the 7:05 mark of the second period. Senior midfielder Pat Collins (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield) scored two goals, while senior attackman Jack Murray (Earlysville, Va./Albemarle) notched a goal and an assist during the spurt.

The Eagles (4-2) responded with two goals to tie the score at 3-3 heading into halftime and then scored four straight goals in the third period, including three in a span of 1:19, to take a 7-3 after three periods. Sophomore midfielder Matt Morrell tallied two goals and junior attackman Dave Morris added a goal and an assist during the run.

W&L pulled to within 7-5 at the 11:10 mark of the fourth period on goals by sophomore midfielder Jim Ryan (Virginia Beach, Va./Norfolk Academy) and freshman attackman Ned Rider (Manakin-Sabot, Va./Collegiate), but Mary Washington scored the next two goals to push their lead back to 9-5 with just 2:14 left in the game.

Collins and Ryan each finished with a pair of goals for the Generals, while senior attackman Gavin Molinelli (Northport, N.Y./Northport) notched two assists. Sophomore Chris Lalli (Cranbury, N.J./Princeton) made six saves in goal.

Morrell and senior attackman Mark Fiore each tallied two goals for the Eagles. Freshman Brad Buck stopped 12 shots in net.

The Generals return to the field on Saturday when they host Lynchburg at 1:30 pm.
