W&L Men's Soccer Falls To Virginia Wesleyan, 3-2

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Freshman midfielder Damien Woodley (Marlboro, N.J./Marlboro) scored his second goal of the game at the 86:07 mark to give the Virginia Wesleyan men's soccer team a 3-2 win over Washington and Lee on Saturday afternoon at Watt Field.

After a scoreless first half in which each team got off only two shots, the two teams would combine to score four goals in a span of 14 minutes in the second stanza. Woodley started the scoring binge on an unassisted goal at 51:33. The Marlins (9-5-2, 5-2-1) extended their lead to 2-0 when freshman forward Caleb Mitchell (Chapel Hill, N.C./East) scored off a pass from senior midfielder Steve Leahy (Onancock, Va./Nandua) at 59:14.

The Generals (5-6-3, 2-3-3) then responded with the next two goals to tie the game at 2-2. Senior midfielder Justin Mygatt (Marietta, Ga./Woodward Academy) scored at 61:30 off assists by senior defender Peter Miller (Towson, Md./Baltimore Lutheran) and senior midfielder Brian Pirkle (Lexington, Va./Woodberry Forest) to cut the deficit to 2-1. Four minutes later, freshman forward Jack Palmer (Williamsburg, Va./Jamestown) received a pass from Pirkle and put the shot into the back of the Marlins goal, setting up Woodley's game-winner.

W&L freshman goalkeeper Jim Tartaglia (Richmond, Va./J.R. Tucker) made three saves while freshman Kyle Williams (Springfield, Va./Robert E. Lee) stopped five shots for the Marlins.
