Roanoke Upsets W&L Lacrosse, 8-4

SALEM, Va. -- Roanoke goaltender Tim Morse turned back 18 Washington and Lee shots as the 17th-ranked Maroons defeated seventh-ranked W&L, 8-4, in ODAC men's lacrosse action on Sunday in Salem, Va.

Roanoke (5-1, 1-0) raced out to a 6-0 lead on attackman Kris Davis' tally with 4:59 to play in the second quarter. Generals' senior midfielder Rob Brown (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) got W&L on the board with a goal to cut it to 6-1 at the half.

The Maroons then boosted their lead to seven, taking an 8-1 lead in the third off goals from attackmen Andy Bonasera and Dan Reed.

The Generals (3-2, 0-1), who held a 43-32 advantage in shots, rounded out the scoring with one goal in the third and two more in the fourth for the final margin.

Bonasera recorded a game-high three goals, while Reed chipped in with two goals and an assist.

Scoring one goal apiece for the Generals were Brown, junior attackman Matt Fink (Wilmington, Del./Tatnall), junior midfielder Dustin Martin (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) and sophomore attackman Jack Murray (Earlysville, Va./Albemarle). Junior Ansel Sanders (Weems, Va./Woodberry Forest) made 11 stops in the Generals' cage.

W&L returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts Guilford for a 3:30 pm contest.
