W&L Cruises to a 23-2 Win Over Greensboro

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Top-ranked Washington and Lee placed 14 different players in the goal scoring column led by senior attackman Matt Dugan's (Rockaway, N.J./Mountain Lakes) five goals in defeating Greensboro College, 23-2, in men's lacrosse action on Wednesday afternoon at Wilson Field.

The Generals (9-0) took an 18-0 lead over the game's first 35 minutes and out-shot the Pride (2-8) by a 53-9 count. Freshman midfielder Mark McLewee (Timonium, Md./Dulaney) claimed his best game in a W&L uniform by totaling one goal and four assists on the day. Senior midfielder Pope Hackney (Richmond, Va./St. Christopher's) tallied two goals and three assists, while junior middie John Moore (Bel Air, Md./John Carroll) added three goals.

Greensboro got on the board at the 7:42 mark of the third quarter as sophomore attackman Ryan Potts (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) scored off an assist from freshman midfielder J.R. Harig (San Antonio, Texas/St. Mary's Hall). The Pride's final goal came at the 2:44 mark of the third quarter as senior midfielder Mars Anguiano (Austin, Texas/Stephen F. Austin) notched an unassisted tally.

In goal, senior Wes Hays (Pasadena, Md./Loyola), freshman Ansel Sanders (Weems, Va./Woodberry Forest) and senior Bo Vaughan (Richmond, Va./Collegiate) combined to make four saves for W&L. Senior Mike Cappe (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) and freshman Joe Prota (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire) combined on 15 stops for Greensboro.

Washington and Lee will break for exams before returning to action on Apr. 14 as it hosts Guilford in an ODAC contest. Faceoff is set for 1:30 pm.
